Your new role

Our client, HSKS Greenhalgh, is looking to recruit a Taxation Trainee in their Derby office, with some occasional travel to other office locations.

HSKS Greenhalgh are a Midlands based independent firm of Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors who specialise in working with high net worth individuals, entrepreneurs and growing owner-managed businesses.

What you’ll do

Working as part of the Taxation Services team you will be responsible for providing a tax compliance service to a broad portfolio of clients, in particular: high net worth individuals, sole traders, directors, partnerships and trusts.

The role will provide exposure in dealing with personal, partnership and trust tax returns. You will be ensuring that their self-assessment tax returns are completed and submitted in a timely and accurate manner. You will also have exposure of R40 repayment claims as well as preparation of P11Ds.

This is a client focused role so you must enjoy developing and building relationships with your clients and have the confidence to respond to clients, third parties and HM Revenue & Customs on other tax compliance matters.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs equivalent to grades 9 – 4 including English and Maths
  • A Levels would also be desirable
  • High degree of numeracy
  • IT literate with a good level of knowledge with Microsoft Office including Word and Excel
  • Appreciation of working to deadlines and budgets
  • High level of accuracy
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexible approach to work
  • Willingness to learn new skills
  • Team player who shows initiative

You should have a background or proven interest in tax, and preferably have experience of working in an accountancy practice environment. Preparing tax returns in a compliance focused role would be an advantage although working knowledge of personal tax including tax returns and P11D’s is not essential, as full training will be given. Training will also be given on our accounting and tax software.

Consideration will also be given to providing study support towards gaining membership of the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT).
